They repeatedly talk about quitting, but don't. They just can't seem to stay abstinent or stop successfully.
They often isolate themselves socially, sometimes distancing themselves from friends and family and those that are themselves seeking sobriety.
Despite their kind demeanor, they may engage in harmful behavior towards themselves and their loved ones.
They ask for help but don't really do anything about it. People begin to lose interest in their desire to stop.
They may have immense strength and determination in other areas of their lives, yet are out of control when it comes to drug or alcohol use.
